Our chapter house, located at 918
College Avenue in Houghton,
Michigan, was built in 1900 for Allen
Rees, Esq., the Houghton
County prosecuting attorney.
Designed by H.L. Ottenheimer of
Chicago in the Georgian style, it has
long been one of the most
distinctive and impressive buildings on
College Avenue.
The main floor has ten foot ceilings,
while the second floor has 9.5'
ceilings. All rooms have oak
flooring, and the woodwork
throughout the house is also oak.
The foundation is made of
locally quarried Jacobsville sandstone,
and the wood siding and
copper roof deck are original to the
structure.
The building was a private home until
1995, when it was
remodeled and opened as the Charleston
House Inn. The house
was purchased in September 2005 by the
Phi Phi Zeta House
Corporation. On August 5, 2006,
after more than $250,000 in
renovations, the house was dedicated as
the new home of
Phi Phi Zeta.
