House Improvement Wish List
Because our house is more than 106 years old, there are a lot of projects that need to be completed in order to enjoy the structure for another 100 years! While income from rents will help maintain the property, major capital projects require financial support and gifts from interested alumni. A brief description of the projects for which we require support are below
Letters on House
Ken Thorp, ΦΦ 41, suggested that we spell out the name "Lambda Chi Alpha" along the front of the house, as well as place Greek letters on the front of the house in a prominent location. We've investigated the various options, and came to the conclusion that using molded letters would offer us the best combination of cost and durability. "Lambda Chi Alpha" would be spelled out in 10" black molded plastic letters, while the Greek LCA would be done in 36" high white acrylic. Cost of the entire project: $1,200, including installation.

Painting The House
This is the most visible and important project the House Corporation can undertake. Currently, the condition of the paint on the house is extremely poor, irrespective of its "salmon" hue. Prior paint jobs were performed improperly, which has caused significant peeling and water damage. Virtually all of the siding and wood trim on the house is original to the structure, which means that preservation is extremely important. We have considered and rejected vinyl siding, as it will not save money or eliminate the need to strip and paint much of the fine woodwork on the house, and will also create the possibility of water damage behind the siding. In order to properly paint the house, the existing paint will need to be completely stripped using abrasives, and then primer and new paint applied to the entire structure. We received a bid of $35,000 for removal and repainting, along with an estimate for $10,000 for removal and replacement of siding and wood trim as needed. This bid has been reviewed by several professional painters for both cost and sufficiency, and all have agreed that this is a reasonable price for the amount of work and materials involved.
- Cost of Project: $45,000.00
- Funds Raised: $250.00 (as of September 2009)
- Remaining: $44,750.00
